What is Bankshare®?

In Partnership with NHS Professionals, The Norther Care Alliance NHS Group (Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust) have introduced Bankshare®, which allows the sharing of our Bank workers’ across the Group Care Organisations; Salford, Oldham, Bury & Rochdale and North Manchester, giving you greater access to shifts closer to you.

Why has The Bankshare® been created?

We appreciate that staff like to work on the bank at their own Hospital but also have the opportunity to work bank shifts in other Hospitals.

Currently the process to work elsewhere on the bank can require duplicate processes i.e. pre-employment checks if you are a substantive member of staff, so the Northern Care Alliance have worked with NHS Professionals to launch Bankshare® to take away any duplication and enable it to be as easy as possible for staff to work at another Group Care Organisation.

Which staff groups are included as part of Bankshare®?

Only Nursing & Midwifery staff (including CSW's) are applicable for Bankshare® at this stage

How do I join the Bank?

Substantive membership

If you are permanently employed at any of the Group Care Organisations; Salford, Oldham, Bury & Rochdale and North Manchester you can join the bank in just 72 hours.

Bank Exclusive membership

You can join via our fast track route, if you have worked at any of our partner Trusts.

How do I work via the Bankshare®?

If you are already registered with NHS Professionals to work Bank shifts at either Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust or The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust then you will automatically have the alternate organisation added to your NHS Professionals profile.

Do I have to wear a different uniform if I work bank shifts at Salford Royal NHS Foundation or The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust?

No - Substantively employed Nursing staff can where their Trust uniform (Salford and Pennine) when undertaking a Bank shift at either organisation.

Note; if you are employed in position above that of a Band 5 Nurse, please speak to the local NHS Professionals co-ordinator before booking shifts. This is to ensure that your current uniform is covered by the Bankshare agreement.

Will I need to arrange for a new ID card if I work bank shifts in other member Trusts?

No - Substantively employed Nursing staff can use their existing ID badge (Salford and Pennine) when undertaking a Bank shift at either organisation.

If I am substantively employed Nurse at either Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust or The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (Part of the Northern Care Alliance) can I work for a Nursing Agency at either Trust?

No – Once the Bankshare agreement goes live the Northern Care Alliance will no longer look to engage you via a Nursing Agency. All temporary staffing shifts will need to be carried out via NHS Professionals.

Will I still be paid weekly?

Yes, regardless of which member Trust you work in, you will still be paid weekly (Friday).

Will I be paid the same rate at the different member Trusts?

If you pick up shifts at a nearby Trust to where you usually work, then you accept the shift on the Business as usual rate for that Trust, Ward & Dept.

Will my current assignment codes be applicable in another Trust that is a member of Bankshare®?

If you have the relevant assignment code which the ward or department have requested, you can book into or be booked into a shift by Trust staff of a member Trust. Your current assignment codes will not change.

What training do I require to work at either Salford NHS Foundation Trust or The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and will I still be able to book into a shift the same way I normally do?

Your existing training will be recognised between both organisations. If you have any questions contact the NHS Professionals local co-ordinator.

You will be able to book into shifts which meet your current professional / training criteria.

What happens when I am in my preceptorship period?

Staff need to have completed their preceptorship period before they can work on the banks of member Trusts. To ensure you are well supported, new registrants need to complete their preceptorship period in their own ward prior to undertaking bank shifts elsewhere.

Will parking costs be the same at both Trusts’?

Car Parking charges differ across the Care Organisations. Contact the local NHS Professionals site co-ordinator to confirm the cost
