Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain NMC registration and ensure that Revalidation is up to date. Practice in accordance with the NMC The Code and the Standards for Midwives
- Ensure that other NMC documents and Trust guidelines are adhered to. Maintain and develop professional knowledge and competence in accordance with NMC recommendations
- Plan and provide individualised care based on careful history taking, medical and social assessment as early in pregnancy as possible
- To promote and maintain standards of professional practice in order to enhance quality of care for clients
- Work within the agreed guidelines, policies and practices and participate in the review of guidelines and practice
- Be accountable for maintaining a safe and responsible approach to own sphere of practice.
- Ensure good communication with appropriate team professionals/agencies/clients using discretion and maintaining confidentiality and a level of continuity and quality of care
- To maintain legible and contemporaneous records at all times, reflecting the management of care
- Communicate information effectively with clients to assist them in making informed choice regarding maternity care
- Be aware of the Data Protection Act and confidentiality rules. Work towards the aims/objectives of the Trust’s Nursing and Midwifery strategy. Participate in research trials within the unit
- Ensure that midwifery practice is current, and research based
- Plan, organise and participate in Parent Education teaching in the clinical area
- Advise of Family Planning, Sexual Health and Public Health Services available
